Tecumseh Lake- Lakeside parcel protected!
Our Wayne National Forest staff desperately wanted to incorporate this last remaining lake-front parcel into public ownership, so that the peacefulness of the lake could be maintained, and so the Forest Service could construct a hiking trail around the lake. When the property became listed for Sheriff's sale due to non-payment of back taxes, the Wayne acquisition process was not able to act fast enough to bid. Forest Conservancy Limited leaped into action, attending the Sheriff's sale and offered the winning bid. After the lengthy requisitioning process for federal funding was completed, the Wayne was able to purchase the land from us for the public good, and funds were recycled back to the Conservancy for the next project. This opportunity would have been lost if not for our rapid response and bidding. The 2-acre parcel is now part of the public lakefront for all to enjoy. If you visit, make sure to also tour historic Shawnee, Ohio near the lake, where the Buckeye Trail is headquartered, and historic buildings undergo slow but steady restoration.
