Tunnel Rock- Blair Preserve
The Tunnel Rock portion of the Athens Conservancy preservation area went unexpectedly up for sale at a time when Clean Ohio grant funds were not immediately available. This 20 acre parcel was located between Strouds Run State Park and the popular "Hawk Woods/Riddle Preserve" area. The seller was not willing to wait for grant approvals for the sale of this vital in-holding. Forest Conservancy Limited purchased the property and held it until Clean Ohio Funds were available for purchase by the Athens Conservancy on a not-for-profit basis from Forest Conservancy Limited.
This property contains a scenic ridge of rock outcroppings and a "tunnel" through the rock that gives the area its name. Hikers can now walk through preserved property from Sells Park in Athens all the way to Strouds Run State Park. The Athens Conservancy honored Forest Conservancy's founder, Brian Blair, with the naming of the area the "Blair Preserve" For more information, see and support the Athens Conservancy, www.athensconservancy.org
